SBS Entertainment Awards 2024: Nominees & Details of Broadcast Revealed

by | Dec 30, 2024 | Entertainment

SBS Entertainment Awards 2024, which was initially supposed to be broadcast on December 31, has been canceled. The channel revealed the list of nominees and other details as fans look forward to the possibility of the event happening in 2025.

Why was SBS Entertainment 2024 Canceled?

The highly anticipated SBS Entertainment Awards 2024, slated for December 31, has been halted in its tracks. Behind the glitter and glamour lies a sobering reality: the awards show’s cancellation stems from the tragic Jeju Air crash on December 29. True to South Korea’s deeply rooted cultural values, SBS joined other networks in putting celebrations on hold during this period of national mourning. The channel’s statement was clear yet open-ended: while December 31’s festivities are definitely canceled, the door remains ajar for a potential future broadcast.

SBS noted in an official statement: “The 2024 SBS Entertainment Awards, which was scheduled for the 31st, will be canceled. The live broadcast and recording will not take place on the 31st, and it has not been decided yet whether to proceed with recorded broadcasts in the future.”

Nominees Selected For SBS Entertainment Awards 2024

Despite the postponement, the nominee list of SBS Entertainment Awards 2024 reads like a who’s who of Korean variety show royalty, featuring some of the industry’s most loved artists. The battle for the prestigious Daesang (Grand Prize) promised to be epic, featuring variety show titans like Yoo Jae Suk, Jun Hyun Moo, and Kim Jong Kook, among other luminaries.

The nominees’ reactions ranged from heartfelt to hilarious. Kim Jong Kook, the powerhouse behind “Running Man” and “My Little Old Boy,” openly shared his ambition: “To be honest, I’d like to win the Daesang at least once.” Meanwhile, the ever-charismatic Lee Hyun Yi threw the gauntlet with a playful challenge: “If you tell me to dance, I’ll dance right now!”

In classic variety show fashion, the legendary Yoo Jae Suk – no stranger to the Daesang podium – played it humbly with a simple “I am so perplexed.” Not to be outdone, Shin Dong Yup stole the show with his comedic jab at Jae Suk: “Just shut up already!”

This mix of earnest ambition and playful banter perfectly encapsulates why these stars have captured the hearts of viewers across countless variety shows – and why the eventual ceremony, whenever it may happen, promises to be unmissable.
