Paris Fashion Week Menswear Spring Summer 2024 hit the French capital, marking an event packed with creativity, innovation, and contributions from some of the biggest names in fashion. In this first installment, we explore the top five collections that made their mark.

Hermes

The collection by artistic director Véronique Nichanian for Hermès was showcased at Paris’ historic Palais d’Iéna. Embodying over three decades of Nichanian’s serene refinement and sartorial grace at the helm of the brand’s men’s division, the collection resonated with an air of elegance and grandeur synonymous with the fashion house itself. Nichanian’s S/S 2024 collection for Hermes focused on a minimalist approach.

The designs, which included semi-sheer shirts and just-cropped trousers, were a sophisticated embodiment of a ‘soft sweet summer breeze.’ The designer also exhibited lightweight layers, such as gauzy tailoring, loose knits, and twill shirts crafted from Hermès scarves. Accessories like reversible bucket hats and tote bags with scarf prints were not only stylish but also practical for summer.

Louis Vuitton

The debut of Pharrell Williams as men’s creative director for Louis Vuitton was a standout event at Paris Fashion Week Men’s S/S 2024. Held at Paris’ oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf, the collection was a vibrant homage to the iconic Damier checks pattern of the house, ingeniously introduced with a splash of primary colour by Pharrell. The collection signalled a new era at Louis Vuitton, pushing boundaries for a more inclusive vision of luxury fashion.

Loewe

Creative director Jonathan Anderson presented a collection inspired by towering sculptures at Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2024 Men’s collection. The collection featured high-waisted wide-leg trousers, cropped knitwear, and shimmering sculptural tops. Despite the artistic flourishes, Anderson ensured the collection remained practical, proposing wearable pieces like wide-leg jeans and colourful argyle-knit jumpers.

Givenchy

Givenchy’s designer Matthew M. Williams unveiled a blend of formal fashion archetypes at the Hôtel National des Invalides during Paris Fashion Week. The collection featured a mix of fluid tailoring, schoolboy uniforms, military wear, and tuxedos. The streetwear influence was evident, particularly in the utilitarian accessories complete with signature buckles and utility belts.

Rick Owens

Rick Owens’ Spring/Summer 2024 collection, held at the Palais de Tokyo, was a stark portrayal of determined elegance amidst a turbulent world. The collection, featuring entirely black ensembles, from oversized jackets to high-waisted trousers, was a resilient and jubilant celebration of life and joy.

Other Designers

This season of Paris Fashion Week celebrated the fashion industry’s creativity and optimism. Various brands including Officine Générale, Acne Studios, Berluti, Wales Bonner, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Bianca Saunders, Walter Van Beirendonck, Kiko Kostadinov, and LA-based Amiri all presented their new collections, each with unique highlights.
