K-pop fans are demanding proper justice from SM Entertainment, making many wonder: what happened to RIIZE Seunghan? The rising K-pop star left SM Entertainment’s promising act, RIIZE, in November 2024. The music label notified the fans that the 21-year-old artist will make his solo debut in 2025. Since then, fans have urged SM to take proper steps to bring justice to the K-pop star and allow his artistic abilities to flourish. However, SM Entertainment has yet to address the matter in 2025.

RIIZE Seunghan Controversy Explained

In the ever-evolving landscape of K-pop, few stories have captured the industry’s complex relationship with idol image and fan expectations quite like that of RIIZE’s Seunghan. As 2025 unfolds, fans continue their passionate campaign for “justice,” highlighting the ongoing tension between personal freedom and the strict moral codes often imposed on K-pop idols.

When SM Entertainment unveiled RIIZE in July 2023, the seven-member group seemed poised for greatness. With members Shotaro, Eunseok, Sungchan, Wonbin, Seunghan, Sohee, and Anton, the group represented SM’s ambitious vision for the next generation of K-pop. Their debut single “Get A Guitar” quickly gained traction, and RIIZE appeared destined for success.

However, the group’s momentum hit an unexpected obstacle when pre-debut photos of Seunghan surfaced online. The images, showing the then-21-year-old engaging in what many would consider normal young adult behavior – smoking and displaying physical affection – sparked an intense debate within the K-pop community. Despite these activities being legal, they clashed with the strict behavioral standards often expected of K-pop idols.

Later, Seunghan lent a lengthy apology to those hurt by his actions. The rookie artist wrote on RIIZE’s Instagram: “I sincerely apologize to the fans who are supporting RIIZE.” He noted that his action had caused damage to his team through personal matters.

The K-pop star explained that he took the time to apologize as he was nervous about the situation, adding that he “reflected a lot.” He concluded the letter by saying, “From now on, I will prioritize my team called RIIZE. I’ll be a little more cautious in every situation I’m going through, as well as the RIIZE Stage. I will try my best to make you feel the sincerity towards the team and the fans in my actions.”

Even after Seunghan’s heartfelt apology, the young artist received severe backlash from conservative fans who asked him to leave the group. On November 2023, SM Entertainment wrote: “Seunghan is feeling severely apologetic and is reflecting on himself for causing disappointment and commotion not only to the team and members but also to fans due to issues regarding his personal life that are leaked and circulated.”

Seunghan’s Hiatus & Exit From RIIZE

Seunghan went on an indefinite hiatus for almost a year. The star announced his return in November 2024, but due to another onset of backlash, SM Entertainment decided that Seunghan would leave RIIZE permanently. SM announced: “Seunghan is currently preparing to debut as a solo artist in the second half of 2025 and is receiving full support and guidance across several aspects considered essential for a solo debut, including systemized training, producing, management, and more.”

The statement added, “Seunghan is determined to showcase a new side of himself as he embarks on his journey as a solo artist and carries out his talents and dreams.”

“Justice for Seunghan” Takes Over Social Media

RIIZE fans are demanding Seunghan’s return to the group, which was initially supposed to be made up of seven members. The fans have been trending the hashtag “justice for Seunghan” on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter).

A fan posted: “SEUNGHAN HOUR- “Your DETERMINATION shines brighter than the morning sun. It showed us a way forward, and it’s put us on a path towards tomorrow! We want justice for Seunghan.”

Another fan echoed the same opinion, writing: “SM, we won’t let your silence be accepted. take legal action immediately. BRII7E FIGHT FOR JUSTICE.”

Looking Ahead: The Solo Journey

SM Entertainment’s announcement of Seunghan’s solo debut in late 2025 has been met with mixed reactions. While some fans celebrate the opportunity for his artistic reinvention, others view it as an insufficient response to the situation. The company’s statement emphasizes “systemized training, producing, management, and more,” suggesting a carefully planned comeback strategy.

Industry insiders speculate that Seunghan’s solo material might address his experiences directly, following the path of artists like B.I and other K-pop performers who have used their music to process personal challenges. However, as of early 2025, SM Entertainment maintains its silence on specific details of his upcoming debut.

The story of Seunghan continues to evolve, raising important questions about cancel culture, redemption, and the balance between personal freedom and public image in the K-pop industry. As fans await his solo debut, their unwavering support demonstrates that perhaps the industry’s strict moral codes are gradually shifting toward a more nuanced understanding of human nature.

Whether Seunghan’s upcoming solo career will mark a triumphant return or face continued challenges remains to be seen, but his story has already become a significant chapter in the ongoing discussion about identity, authenticity, and second chances in K-pop.
